Our Program
GnG conducts an after-school music program for youth ages 10-18; children as young as 8 may be accepted if they have the maturity to learn how to play guitar; older students may be accepted if they are completing their high school education. Classes consist of up to 10 students and last for 8-10 weeks. They meet once per week for a one hour lesson. Level 1 lessons are for beginners; Level 2 are geared to the student's skills. Our goal is to run Level 1 and Level 2 once per quarter; doing so is dependent on teacher and student availability.

Mission
We are not anti-gun; we are anti-gun violence
Guitars Not Guns’ (GnG’s) mission is to enable youth burdened by adverse circumstances - poverty, dysfunctional families, challenged communities - to become productive, caring and responsible members of society. We help instill in them the confidence and character necessary for them to move past the limits of their environment and succeed in life.

History
“Guitars not Guns” (GnG) was founded by Ray and Louise Nelson. They became foster parents in 1992 and it was through this experience that Ray realized these youth needed more positive opportunities to help them grow into productive citizens. Ray was a life long musician; he knew the benefits of engaging in a music program and he saw few music opportunities for these youth.
